Given the trends seen in recent national reports, National Right to Life now believes that there have been over 56 million abortions since 1973. One critical piece of evidence in that calculation arrived in November of 2013, when the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reported its latest national figures. It was important to find […]…
Last month, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) released abortion figures for the year 2010. The data indicates that the national abortion rate continues its 20 year decline. The number of abortions performed declined by 3 percent between 2009 and 2010. This decline is fairly consistent across the country. The number of abortions went down in 3…
The Planned Parenthood abortion business says it repeatedly: it’s about women’s health care not abortion. The abortion business will have much to explain following a new study released today by American Life League.
For years, conservatives and pro-life groups have fought public tax dollars going to Planned Parenthood because it is primarily an abortion business and the new study backs up that claim. The meta-study by American Life League shows that the total healthcare services delivered by Planned Parenthood have reached their lowest point since 2006, while taxpayer funding has increased 78 percent over the past six years.
“Taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood reached a record of $ 542 million last year, almost half its $ 1 billion-plus budget,” said Jim Sedlak, vice president at ALL. “Yet, the number of female contraceptive clients is down 18 percent since 2006 and cancer screenings fell 29 percent over the last two years. Every delivery area is down, except one—-abortions.”
Sedlak says that the meta-study, conducted by ALL’s STOPP project, took many months to complete. The report, Planned Parenthood Federation of America: A 5-Part Analysis of Business Practices, Community Outcomes, and Taxpayer Funding, concludes that “Three primary rationales used for taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood—-women’s wellness, reduction of teen pregnancy, and serving the poor—-are invalid.”
The results of the report should not be surprising. Earlier this year, the annual report released by the national Planned Parenthood abortion business shows it did more abortions in its last year than ever before in its history.

The annual report released by the Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) showed the abortion giant did a record 333,964 abortions on unborn children during the 2011-2012 fiscal year. Those abortions were estimated to have generated $ 150 million dollars for the “nonprofit” organization.
While the number of abortions reached a record high, only 2,300 Planned Parenthood customers were referred to adoption agencies during the 2011-2012 fiscal year.
In its prior annual report, Planned Parenthood did 329,445 abortions in 2010 while it provided prenatal care to only 31,098 women and referred only 841 women to adoption agencies.

Following a routine inspection—the first since 2006– the Femcare abortion clinic in Asheville, North Carolina has had its license suspended. It is the third North Carolina abortion clinic to have sanctions imposed in just a matter of months.
“In April, state health officials revoked the license of A Preferred Woman’s Health Center on Latrobe Drive in Charlotte,” according to the News Observer’s Jim Morrill and Karen Garloch. “Last month they shut down The Baker Clinic for Women in Durham. The Charlotte clinic has since been allowed to reopen. It’s unclear whether the Durham clinic is back in business.” Investigators found dead insects, blood splatters and dirty surgical instruments inside the Durham abortion clinic.
According to a statement from the state DHHS office inspectors found “egregious violations of existing rules that revealed an imminent threat to the health and safety of patients.” Femcare failed to meet 23 separate rules.
“We take rule violations very seriously and, when necessary, take firm action to prevent harm to patients and clients in the facilities that we license, regulate and inspect,’ said Drexdal Pratt, director of DHHS’ Division of Health Service Regulation.
The 49-page report found (according to The Citizen Times) that the clinic failed to:
• Maintain anesthesia (nitrous oxide gas) delivery systems in good working condition, with torn masks and tubing held together with tape;
• Ensure emergency equipment had weekly checks to ensure the equipment was suitable for use in patient care and failed to ensure that emergency medicine wasn’t expired;
• Have a resuscitator available;
• Sweep and mop the operating room floor and failed to properly clean operating room beds;
• Have a director of nursing responsible and accountable for all nursing services;
• Have an agreement or contract with an anesthetist or anesthesiologist; and
• Have an agreement or contract with a registered pharmacist to assure appropriate methods, procedures and controls for obtaining, dispensing and administering drugs.

A new bill signed into law this week by Gov. Pat McCrory included a provision to mandate that abortion clinics must meet requirements similar to but not identical to those required of ambulatory surgical centers. All three of these suspensions took place before new standards could be written.

It was Texas state Sen. Wendy Davis’ nearly 11-hour filibuster against new abortion restrictions that brought national attention to Texas’ debate over late-term abortion, but her efforts didn’t sway many votes in the state House, at least in her direction. GOP consultant Matt Mackowiak and others noted that the legislation actually picked up a few votes.
Orange-shirted abortion rights activists crowded the rotunda and met Republican representatives with a chant of “Shame on you!”
The bill moves to a final vote tomorrow in the House before moving to the Senate on Thursday.
Guess How Much Money Fmr. Press Secretary Robert Gibbs Has Made Giving Speeches Since Leaving White House?
Interestingly this tidbit it tweeted by the leading scoop journalist of the moment (although this time the information isn’t exactly top secret):
The New York Times Magazine piece, “How to Win in Washington,” describes Gibbs as “a journeyman flack who struck gold with the right patron and wound up talking at the lectern at 1600 Pennsylvania.”
More from the NYT Magazine:
Gibbs’s time at the White House had been a mixed bag, which included internal West Wing clashes, strained relationships with reporters and a few mishaps that resulted from excessive candor. But he was nonetheless set for life as a professional “former.” That is, a former official who can easily score a seven-figure income as an out-of-office wise man, statesman or hired gun. “Formers” stick to Washington like melted cheese on a gold-plated toaster, and Gibbs would be no exception. He could move seamlessly into the news media (MSNBC) at a time when punditry replaced reporting as journalism’s highest pursuit. (Since leaving the White House in 2011, Gibbs has made about $ 2 million in paid speeches alone.)
Here’s Gibbs as pundit, acknowledging on MSNBC that as press secretary, he was ordered to not even acknowledge the existence of the Obama drone program:

Police: Lone Star Stabber Planned Attack for Some Time, Had Fantasies of Stabbing People to Death Since Elementary School
CYPRESS, Texas (AP) — A 20-year-old student went on a building-to-building stabbing attack at a Texas community college Tuesday, wounding at least 14 people – many in the face and neck – before being subdued and arrested, authorities said Tuesday.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that Dylan Quick had been planning the attack at the Lone Star College System’s campus in Cypress for some time and had fantasies of stabbing people to death since he was in elementary school.
Quick, who was charged with three counts of aggravated assault, used a razor-type knife, and piece of the blade was found in at least one victim, the sheriff’s office said. Broken blade pieces also were found in the area where the stabbing occurred, and the handle was discovered in a backpack that Quick was carrying when he was arrested.
Authorities were seen entering Quick’s parents’ home in a middle-class neighborhood of Houston on Tuesday night. No one answered the door or the phone at the red brick home, where two vehicles were parked in the driveway, including a Honda Accord with a license plate that said “DYLAN.” It was not immediately known if Quick had an attorney.
The attack happened at 11:20 a.m. and sent at least 12 people to hospitals, while several others refused treatment at the scene, according to Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department spokesman Robert Rasa. Two people remained in critical condition Tuesday evening at Memorial Hermann Texas Trauma Institute, spokeswoman Alex Rodriguez said.
Diante Cotton, 20, said he was sitting in a cafeteria with some friends when a girl clutching her neck walked in, yelling: “He’s stabbing people! He’s stabbing people!”
Cotton said he could not see the girl’s injuries, but when he and his friends went outside, they saw a half-dozen people with injuries to their faces and necks being loaded into ambulances and medical helicopters.
Harris County Sherriff Adrian Garcia said that when emergency calls came into the department, there were indications that “students or faculty were actively responding to work to subdue this individual.”
“So we’re proud of those folks, but we’re glad no one else is injured any more severely than they are,” Garcia said.
Michelle Alvarez told the Houston Chronicle she saw the attacker running toward other students and tried to back away. She said she didn’t even feel it as he swiped at her.
“He came running and swinging at my neck, as I tried to get out of the way,” she said.
The attack came three months after a different Lone Star campus was the site of a shooting in which two people were hurt. The suspected gunman in that incident is charged with aggravated assault.
