Islamists Reportedly Raise Al Qaeda Flag on Egyptian Church

Even though Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated President Mohammed Morsi is no longer in power, Egypt’s Christian minority continues to face violence at the hands of Morsi’s Islamist supporters.

The latest example: hundreds of Morsi supporters converged on Christian church last weekend in central Egypt and raised the Al Qaeda flag on the building.

Amnesty Int’l Excoriates Egyptian Police for Leaving Christians to Die at the Hands of Frenzied Mob

Amnesty International released a report on Tuesday excoriating Egyptian security forces for leaving a group of Coptic Christians to die at the hands of a massive and frenzied mob earlier this month.

According to the report, six Egyptian Christians were left to protect themselves during an 18-hour attack on July 5th in a village near Luxor. Four were eventually killed, and one was hospitalized.

CAIRO (AP) — With a mob of Muslim extremists on their tail, the Christian businessman and his nephew climbed up on the roof and ran for their lives, jumping from building to building in their southern Egyptian village. Finally they ran out of rooftops.

Forced back onto the street, they were overwhelmed by several dozen men. The attackers hacked them with axes and beat them with clubs and tree limbs, killing Emile Naseem, 41. The nephew survived with wounds to his shoulders and head and recounted the chase to The Associated Press.
