Last Friday, the Missouri General Assembly adjourned its 2014 legislative session, and with its closing came victories for Second Amendment supporters.  During this session, three NRA-supported bills made their way through the legislative process: Senate Joint Resolution 36, Senate Bill 745 and Senate Bill 656….

Battle Continues Over Law That Could Close Mississippi’s Last Abortion Clinic

The courtroom was packed today as a three-judge panel of the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals heard a challenge to a Mississippi law that requires abortionists to have admitting privileges at a local hospital. Last month a similar Texas law was upheld by a different three-judge panel  in that case, Judges Edith Jones, Catharina […]…

Besieged by Regulations and Lawsuits, Country’s Only Primary Lead Smelter to Close

How the closure of the Doe Run operation in Herculaneum, MO, will affect the future production—and, ultimately the availability and consumer cost—of traditional, lead-core ammunition remains unknown. The Herculaneum smelter, which has existed in the same location since 1892, is the only primary lead smelter in the country, producing lead bullion from raw lead ore mined in Missouri’s extensive lead deposits. Several secondary smelters, where lead is recycled from products including lead-acid batteries or spent ammunition components, continue operation in other stateside locations. The lead bars produced in Herculaneum have historically been gone to ammunition manufactures for use in conventional ammo components such as projectiles, projectile cores, and primers.

Study Shows Big Drop in Teen Pregnancy Rates as Planned Parenthood Clinics Close

As a part of ALL’s just-released meta-study of Planned Parenthood, STOPP researchers analyzed the teen pregnancy rate in 16 counties of the Texas Panhandle. In those counties, over an 11-year period, closures of Planned Parenthood facilities were ongoing in the face of strong community opposition to the abortion giant’s presence.

As Dozens of Abortion Clinics Close, Pro-Life Movement is Winning

No one likes to see a business close its doors — unless that business is an abortion clinic! In states across America, pro-lifers have been all too happy to shutter facilities bent on misleading women and taking innocent lives. And that’s no small number, according to a new report from Bloomberg. Since 2011, 58 of America’s abortion clinics — almost one in 10 — have either pulled the plug on their abortion services or folded altogether.

National gun debate hits close to home in Colorado recall vote

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg of New York and the billionaire philanthropist Eli Broad have each donated hundreds of thousands of dollars. The National Rifle Association is buying political advertisements. New York’s junior senator sent a fund raising e mail. And the election has attracted news coverage from as far away as Sweden. All this over a homegrown campaign to oust two Democratic state senators who provided crucial support for a package of strict new state gun control laws. As the recall elections the first of their kind in Colorado’s history draw closer, the race has swelled from a local scuffle into a proxy battle in the nation’s wrenching fight over gun control.

The 41-Second Video of a Close Bison Encounter You’ll Want to Watch to the Very End

There’s something to be said about being quiet and enjoying hearing only the sounds of nature. A couple hiking in Yellowstone found another benefit to the gift of silence — safety.

A redditor posted a YouTube video titled “How to be quiet around a bison.” The video shows a very large, slow-moving bison sauntering down a path in Yellowstone National Park toward the videographer.

Alabama abortion clinic operating without a license ordered to close

The hashtag #ShutDerizDown has become a reality in Birmingham, Alabama this afternoon as Judge Joseph Boohaker in Jefferson County, AL has ordered the New Woman All Women clinic, which had previously been shut down but continued to operate anyway, to be permanently closed because it was operating illegally.

North Carolina Pro-Life Bill That Could Close Abortion Clinics Becomes Law

Governor Pat McCrory officially put his name on a pro-life bill today that would stop abortions by helping pregnant women and stopping taxpayer financed abortions.

The bill would also subject abortion clinics to better health and safety laws that could wind up closing abortion facilities that are unable to comply and protect women’s health.

From a local news report:

Texas Abortion Business to Close Down in 90 Days After New Late-Term Ban

The new pro-life law Governor Rick Perry signed into law to ban abortions after 20 weeks has resulted in shutting down another abortion business.

The law bans abortions after 20 weeks and holds abortion clinics accountable by making them meet basic health and safety standards that have closed facilities in other states that are unable to comply. The law also requires all abortion clinics to meet the same health and safety regulations as an ambulatory surgical center, requires a doctor providing abortions to secure admitting privileges at a nearby hospital, and lastly, requires a doctor to personally administer the abortion-inducing drugs to the patient.

Judge Halts Alabama Pro-Life Law That Could Close Abortion Clinics

With the agreement of both parties, last week U.S. District Judge Myron Thompson extended the Temporary Restraining Order he issued in June blocking a section of Alabama’s pro-life HB 57. The TRO, scheduled to expire in August, was extended to March 2014.

U.S. District Judge Myron Thompson The provision at issue is that the commonsense requirement that abortionists have admitting privileges in a local hospital, in case there are complications. The plaintiffs are three of the state’s five abortion clinics. (The other two abortion clinics–in Huntsville and Tuscaloosa—use abortionists with admitting privileges to local hospitals.)

Texas Late-Term Abortion Ban May Force 35 Abortion Clinics to Close

Now that the state of Texas has approved the bill to ban-late term abortions, pro-abortion stalwarts are still complaining that as many as 35 abortions clinics may be forced to close.

The 20-week abortion ban was the major focus of the bill, but the legislation also places stricter health and safety regulations on abortion clinics — which has formced many abortion clinics in other states that can’t guarantee they can protect the health of women to close.
