Ireland is known as a “Catholic country.” It’s had a strong anti-abortion history. Like in most Western nations, there has been a push to weaken anti-abortion laws. Ireland is no exception. What the pro-abortion lobby needed was a catalyst. The abortionists found it in the person of Savita Halappananvar.
It was claimed that Ms. Halappananvar required an abortion to save her life. She was denied an abortion because of Ireland’s anti-abortion laws. As a result she died. Here’s how the situation was href="http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/cristinaodone/100192639/doubts-over-savitas-tragic-death-she-may-not-have-been-denied-an-abortion/">framed by the media:style="padding-left: 30px;">“[Kitty] Holland’s exclusive tale of the tragic death made headlines around the world. Pro-abortion groups seized upon the story to condemn any review of abortion laws. Protesters chanting ‘Never again!’ marched in Irish cities. Holland’s report [in the Irish Times] ensured that abortion was hailed as a life-saving operation; that it should be cruelly denied a young woman was further proof (if any were needed) that the Catholic Church was backward and barbarian.”
After further research, with the accumulation of new facts, we’re learning that Ms. Halappananvar may have had other health problems unrelated to her pregnancy. “In other words,” href="http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/cristinaodone/100192639/doubts-over-savitas-tragic-death-she-may-not-have-been-denied-an-abortion/">Cristina Odone writes, “the young woman might have been suffering from a fatal condition even before her hospital admission. But in their rush to make a pro-abortion point, journalists and editors did not check their facts.”
This is a tried and tested tactic. It happened in 1973 when the United States Supreme Court legalized abortion in a 7 to 2 decision. Norma McCorvey, the “Jane Roe” in the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision, said to have been raped in order to “terminate her pregnancy” since abortion was legal in Texas in cases of rape and incest. The problem for McCorvey, there was no evidence that she had been raped.
Even so, the pro-abortion lobby needed a victim. McCorvey was poor, out of work, and a drug user. She was the perfect candidate for attorneys Linda Coffee and Sarah Weddington. The fact that McCorvey had not been raped was irrelevant. The claim that she had been raped was good enough. As recently as this year, McCorvey has been trying to get the truth out:style="padding-left: 30px;">“I’m Norma McCorvey, the former Jane Roe of the Roe vs. Wade decision that brought ‘legal’ child killing to America. I was persuaded by feminist attorneys to lie; to say that I was raped, and needed an abortion. It was all a lie. Since then, over 50 million babies have been murdered. I will take this burden to my grave.”

Liberals will do anything in order to get their worldview implemented into law, even if it means lying. If they are willing to lie in order to get a procedure like abortion sanctioned by the highest court in the land, what will they do to get lesser evils passed into law?
