Pelosi: Give Obama “Unilateral Control” Over Debt Ceiling

pelosiDuring a press conference on Friday, Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said that she supported giving “unilateral support” to Barack Obama over the debt ceiling.

A reporter asked, “Do you support President Obama having the power to unilaterally increase the debt limit as Secretary Geithner proposed?”

“Yes.” Pelosi answered.

The idea was proposed by Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner earlier this week, which resulted in Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell laughing out loud.

The Constitution is clear on who controls spending and taxing and any debt that is incurred. The power to do such thing lies with Congress, not the President! It seems now days that people think the Constitution is a list of suggestions that can be misinterpreted or twisted or completely trashed at will. That is not its purpose. It’s purpose is to be obeyed as the law of the land.

To refresh anyone’s memory who may have forgotten or never read it:

The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;

To borrow Money on the credit of the United States;

By the way, Article 1, Section 8 also demonstrates how Congress has neglected its duty when it comes to the coining of money and handing that over to the Federal Reserve, so we already see that Congress has shirked its responsibility and has enslaved us to the Federal Reserve. Now it appears that some of the socialist Democrats want to crown Barack Obama King and continue to pass more power from the Congress, that is Constitutionally theirs, to the Executive Branch. i wonder if Pelosi would be comfortable doing this with a truly conservative president? I’m guessing not.
