Texas Legislature Passes Bill to Ban Abortions, Hold Clinics Accountable
After a long and confusing evening filled with a filibuster and a pro-abortion mob that made it difficult for lawmakers to debate and vote, the Texas state Senate appeared to pass a ban on late-term abortions 19-12.
The bill would ban abortions after 20 weeks and hold abortion clinics accountable by making them meet basic health and safety standards that have closed facilities in other states that are unable to comply.
Senate Bill 5 also requires all abortion clinics to meet the same health and safety regulations as an ambulatory surgical center, requires a doctor providing abortions to secure admitting privileges at a nearby hospital, and lastly, requires a doctor to personally administer the abortion-inducing drugs to the patient.
Republican state senator Bob Duell tweeted:
#SB5 passed before midnight but we were prevented from passing impt transportation funds and new justice bill. Democrats should be ashamed.

Congrats to the TX legislature for standing up against the voice for the abortion lobby #standwithwendy & instead standing up for voiceless.

SB 5 is an unparalleled opportunity to protect women and innocent human life. SB will do the following:
Increase abortion facility safety standards to the level of ambulatory surgical centers to shut down Gosnell-like abortion providers in Texas,
Require the 18,000 RU-486 abortions performed each year be done according to FDA safety standards,
Require physicians who perform abortions to be qualified to treat life-threatening complications after botched abortions and have privileges at a local hospital, and
Ban abortions on unborn children beginning at 20 weeks after fertilization, when scientific evidence clearly shows babies can feel pain.
